In this workshop for children’s authors and picture book author/illustrators, Em Lynas will introduce you to The Seven Steps of Plotting and Pacing: NAME, PREVIEW, CONTRAST, THE EVENT, REFLECT, DECIDE, and ACT.

Whether you’re a planner or a panster this workshop will help you to identify the major events in your story and set up the skills/knowledge/equipment your protagonist will need to fail/succeed. Em will begin by analysing the images from Maurace Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are and move on to examples from film and novels before beginning an analysis of your own work.

Em Lynas is the author of the Witch School series starring Daisy Wart, an aspiring Shakespearean actress who has, tragically, been dumped at Toadspit Towers School for Witches. Em is an ex teacher and the author of the Action Words Reading Scheme under the name Maureen Lynas.

She can be found at and on twitter @emlynas and on the joint blog Notes From The Slushpile.
