Moat Brae
101 Geaorge Street - Dumfries, DG1 1EA

“Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning.”

We are excited to announce an exciting joint SCBWI network road trip to the home of Peter Pan!
SCBWI SE Scotland is teaming up with the North West of England SCBWI network for a magical adventure to the house that inspired JM Barrie to write Peter Pan –  Moat Brae, in Dumfries.

As many of you will know, Moat Brae is due to open shortly as a National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling and a Neverland Discovery Garden. We have arranged for members to receive a discounted entry price and a special SCBWI tour of the newly-renovated house.

The Centre is opening its doors in June and they are just putting the finishing touches to the house, but a typical visit would include: “JM Barrie’s Dumfries” where we will learn about the author’s time in the town; an exhibition of Peter Pan memorabilia collected by Great Ormond Street Hospital; “Revisiting Neverland”, where Moat Brae has recreated the Darling Childrens’ Nursery; “Home Under the Ground”, with line drawn forest depictions of Neverland creatures; plus the Neverland Discovery Garden.

Our visit will take place on Saturday June 8th. The tour begins at 11am, but we will meet for coffee before in the café at Moat Brae itself, so please aim to arrive no later than 10.30am.

The cost of entry to Moat Brae, which will include a private SCBWI tour, is just £6.80. This will be payable on the day, direct to Moat Brae.

After our tour, we anticipate having lunch in the Centre’s brand new café and have reserved a SCBWI table. For details of what you will be able to purchase for your lunch, please visit the Moat Brae website closer to the event date.

As members will be travelling from various locations around Scotland and the North West of England, transport will not be provided. However, we would encourage members to car-share wherever possible and suggest making use of the network Facebook pages to arrange this. There are public transport options to Dumfries – again, this will vary depending on your location.

As places on the tour are limited, you will be required to book a place using the form below.

Please note: for this event payment is not made to SCBWI. You must pay on the day!

Please also note: only book a place if you are definitely attending!
