Star Agent, Sallyanne Sweeney of MMB Creatives, critiques your pitches and opening lines, live and online.
Be part of SCBWI BI history by joining our first ever live webinar, hosted by the Industry Insider Team – bringing London events to you, wherever you are. Without leaving the comfort of your home, this is your chance to have your pitch and opening line critiqued by our star agent, Sallyanne Sweeney of MMB. This is an unmissable opportunity for any unsigned Picture Book, Middle Grade and/or Young Adult writer.
DATE AND TIME:
Monday 11 May 7.30-9pm
Sallyanne Sweeney joined Mulcahy Associates (now part of MMB creative) in 2013 and is growing her list of authors and illustrators for children (picture books to Young Adult) and adults. Awards her clients have won or been shortlisted for include the Irish Book Awards, Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards. Passionate about the editorial side of agenting, Sallyanne enjoys both working with debuts and helping established authors take their careers to the next level. Her fiction tastes are wide-ranging, from the literary to the very commercial, but she is always excited by a distinctive voice, strong storytelling and a fresh premise. She will fight to champion anything that makes her laugh or cry (preferably both).
Additional Information:
Sallyanne Sweeney will be critiquing nine preselected pitches/opening lines and answering questions for the first hour of the webinar. The remaining time will be open for participants to chat and ask any questions to the Industry Insider team.
For people wanting to submit a pitch and opening line for the event, the deadline is 13/4/20. Bookings will remain open after this date, but late submissions will not be considered.
Instructions on how and what to submit will be sent after booking confirmation.
Please note: Sallyanne is actively building her client list and is genuinely looking for new talent. You can, therefore, use this opportunity in two ways – to see if a new concept/idea has potential before you invest time into it, or to see if something ready for submission is of interest to her. Due to time constraints it’s expected that no more than 9 submissions will be critiqued, however, a further 6 will be selected for reserve. It is important to note that your submission may not be selected, but you should still learn a lot from Sallyanne’s expert analysis and insider advice.
In order to take part you will need to be able to use Zoom either on a laptop/PC/iMac or mobile device and will need good wifi access. It is recommended that you download Zoom before the event (see www.zoom.us). A link and instructions for joining the webinar will be emailed to you prior to the event.
Any questions/queries about the event should be directed to: industryinsiders@britishscbwi.org
