So you get an agent and then a book deal or commissions, but what happens next? What is it really like to be a working Author and/or Illustrator? How do you keep your career going through the unexpected things in life, like a pandemic? Join us for our “members only” panel discussion with three amazing guests, spanning the spectrum of writing and illustration for children. There’s even an opportunity to put your questions to them afterwards. We are very happy to announce our panel as follows.

Writing for Young Adults: P. M. Freestone

P. M. Freestone writes young adult fantasy and speculative fiction. In 2019, her debut novel Shadowscent: The Darkest Bloom was published in English by Scholastic, has so far been acquired in seven other languages, and was a finalist in the 2020 Aurealis Awards. Freestone’s short stories for adults and young people have appeared in various print and online venues. She is a Clarion Writers’ Workshop graduate, a Scottish Book Trust New Writer’s Award winner, and holds degrees in archaeology, history, sociology and global health. Originally hailing from Australia, she now calls Scotland home.

Middle Grade Fiction: Justin Davies

Justin writes “laugh out loud funny” middle grade fiction with “a whiff of danger”. His debut Help! I Smell a Monster was published by Hachette Children’s Group in 2019, swiftly followed by Woah! I Spy a Werewolf in January of this year. Justin lives with his husband in the shadow of the Forth Bridge in Fife. He arrived in Scotland via: The South (born in Berkshire/raised in Hampshire); The North (studied in Sheffield); The South (again); with brief, but intriguing, sojourns in France and Spain. Being half Welsh, and married to a Scot, Justin feels quite at home in a land of Celts.

Illustration and Writing for Children: Tita Berredo

Tita is a children’s writer and illustrator born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature and Illustration from Goldsmiths University of London, and is represented by Fairbank Literary Representation.
