Industry Insiders Skylark Literary Event: One-to-Ones
We’re delighted to offer SCBWI members who are attending the Skylark Literary Event the opportunity of an individual one-to-one meeting on a section of your 5+ Chapter Book, Middle Grade or Young Adult/Crossover novel. Your session will be with Joanna Moult or Amber Caravéo on Tuesday 7th March 2017.
The one-to-one meetings will run from 4pm to 7pm at The Lukin, 4 Conway Mews, London W1T 6BB. We will email you in advance with the running order and you will have a 15 minute slot to discuss your extract.
After your one-to-one meeting, you can relax and socialise in the The Lukin, with other SCBWI members before the Skylark Talk begins at 7.30pm. You can buy food and drink at the bar.
Please first book separately for the talk on the Skylark Event page.
Booking a one-to-one meeting is for SCBWI members who have booked the Skylark Event only.
Once you have booked the Talk and One-to-One, you’ll be be emailed with the details on how to submit. Just so you know, you'll be asked to print out and send a hard copy of the first 3 chapters or 3,000 words, whichever is shorter, and a one-page synopsis of the whole story. This should be accompanied by a cheque for £25 which should be made payable to Amber Caravéo. This should be done by 14th February 2017, so that the agents have time to read everything.
If you book for the one-to-one and then change your mind, please email Tania at london@britishscbwi.org so we can give your slot to someone else.
Details on where to send your submission will be emailed to you on booking.
The Skylark Literary Talk will begin at 7.30pm. Please remember that you will need to book separately for the talk at a cost of £5 for SCBWI members.
Literary Agents, Amber Caravéo and Joanna Moult will be speaking to us about the agenting process, why you should have an agent and what they do. They’ll be sharing some do’s and don’ts of submitting to agents. And this is a great opportunity to find out more about the Children’s and YA publishing industry, and what people are looking for right now. There will be a Q&A, so do come prepared with any questions you may have.
Skylark Literary is a boutique literary agency specialising in seeking and supporting the very best writers of Children’s and YA fiction. It is founded by Amber Caravéo and Joanna Moult who are both former publishers and can therefore offer insights from both sides of the agent/publisher fence. Skylark is currently open to submissions and submission guidelines and further info can be found on the website at www.skylark-literary.com
Prior to founding Skylark, Amber Caravéo was the Editorial Director for Orion Children’s Books where she was privileged to work with a host of prize-winning and bestselling authors such as Caroline Lawrence, Liz Kessler, Juno Dawson and Holly Black. She has also worked as Senior Commissioning Editor for Random House Children’s Books and for Working Partners where she edited and developed the million-copy selling series phenomenon, Rainbow Magic.
Joanna Moult began her publishing career at Hodder Children's Books editing authors including Cressida Cowell and Kes Gray as well as creating fiction for brands such as Felicity Wishes. Jo then moved to become Senior Commissioning Editor at Simon & Schuster Children’s Books editing Sophie McKenzie’s debut novel GIRL, MISSING and the YUCK series by the Beastly Boys. She spent a couple of years as Editorial Director for Children’s Fiction at literary agents Mulcahy Conway Associates where she worked to seek out new talent and edit submissions to publishers.
