Author and illustrator Gillian McClure will share some of the publishing insights she has acquired while running her own press, Plaister Press,  for four years. She will lead a masterclass from a business perspective, helping participants look at their picture book projects with a view of selling them to a publisher or directly to the customer if self publishing. Also covered will be analysing publishers’ rejections and looking at unique selling points, and alternative ways to market and costings if going down the self publishing route. Mini discussion groups will give participants the opportunity to show each other work and decide which route they could go and how best to convince a publisher or a customer to take their book. The aim of the masterclass is to show how a business perspective can lead to creative changes that will help avoid unnecessary rejections.

Participants are encouraged to bring along picture book projects – old and new.
