Sculpted maquette by author illustrator Jeff Crosby.

Make a 3D Maquette of Your 2D Character!

with Jeff Crosby

Why? A maquette, a small preliminary model, can be used by illustrators as reference for drawing, painting, or further designing and sculpting. A 3D sculpt of your model can also be a great guide for rendering accurate light and form, and be a valuable tool for creating consistent characters in sequential imaging.

This workshop will explore the various types and functions of maquettes, in addition to how to construct them. Author illustrator Jeff Crosby will take us through building our own maquettes and how to use those models as reference for drawing exercises. Materials for sculpting will be supplied. Bring drawing supplies of your choosing.

Jeff Crosby is an illustrator/author living in Cambridge. He has published children’s picture books with DisneyHyperion, Holiday House, Penguin Random House, Tundra Books, and Getty Publishing. Some of his editorial clients include the New York Times, the Village Voice, Entertainment Weekly, GQ, and Jeff also taught graphic design and illustration at Texas State University. A native Texan, he moved to the UK eighteen months ago with his wife and daughter and two Chihuahuas and is having a blast exploring and drawing the British countryside.
