EDINBURGH – A Creative Guide to Mindfulness

Do you constantly find yourself juggling everything that life throws your way? Perhaps you have a non-literary career, are looking after children or caring for family members and just can't seem to find the energy for some quality 'me' time?  Join Gwen as she brings a renewed focus and perspective to people’s lives by supporting their learning of Mindfulness, whilst developing approaches to accept and providing the link to what we need to be kinder to ourselves. 

The two hour session will include:

  • An introduction to Mindfulness – it’s history and an overview of what it is.
  • Experiencing what it is
  • Mindfulness guided practise
  • Chance to share individual experience of practises and to ask questions.

What to Bring

  • Wear something comfortable –  there is mostly sitting with some gentle movement and lying down.
  • Yoga mat, cushion to support head/feet, blanket  – personal choice
  • Bottle of water
  • Notebook or journal is great to bring for jotting down any points or insights. 

GwenGwen Bedey studied at the Scottish College of Textiles and worked in the clothing industry for 10 years, latterly working for Kinloch Anderson in Edinburgh and making many business trips to Japan.

Becoming a full-time mother lead to setting up a small flat rental business allowing time to be at home.  A lifetime interest in health and well-being lead to attending many courses in this area.  In 2013 she trained with Yoga Scotland which lead to experiencing Mindfulness and the realisation of how supportive it is can be for anyone.  Gwen is also a facilitator of ‘Growing Confidence’ a programme for parents.

After 2 years of training with the Mindfulness Association Gwen qualified as a Mindfulness Teacher in July 2016.  Since then she delivers full 8 week Mindfulness courses to the general public. Gwen also teaches the course to a group of women through the charity ‘Making It Work’ with plans for ongoing weekly drop-in classes.  She also works with children and has started to take one-to-one appointments.

Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC)

The 8 week MBLC is a mixture of;

  • Introducing different practises and what they are about.
  • Experiencing them by guided practise
  • Group sharing
  • Supported to practise at home and in life

Each session is 2 hours, the course is supported by a manual and practise audios.  A day of silent practise (10am-4pm) is also included which is a great opportunity to deepen your Mindfulness practise and experience.  The current price for the 8 week course with everything included is £200 per person and would usually include the room hire cost.  However, the course can be tailored to suit your needs and timings.
