Three award winning children’s writers, all based in East Anglia, give insights into the skills needed to engage the interest of the young reader. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q and A session, a book signing and a display of artwork.

Gillian McClure writes and illustrates picture books for 2–6 year olds and shows how she marries word, image and typography into the narrative.

Pippa Goodhart, who writes for 7–9 year olds, talks about nurturing the reading habit of the newly
independent young reader, not only through strong relevant stories but also by building series featuring well loved characters.

Rosemary Hayes, who writes for Young Adults (11+), speaks of the challenges in writing books for this age group and how she chooses storylines to which they can relate, whether contemporary or historical, with enough jeopardy and action to keep them interested.

Cambridge Central Library is full accessible to all. The library cafe will be open for refreshments, but there are many food outlets within the centre and surrounds.

Bookings are non-refundable, but may be transferred.
