Come and join Kate Mallinder as she takes us through one of the most important areas in writing – voice.
It’s an aspect repeatedly asked for by Agents and Publishers, and fortunately for us, Kate is quietly expert in it. Her debut novel ‘Summer of No Regrets’ has been described as delicately balancing humour, sensitivity and diversity through the four, individual voices of a group of teenage girls as they embark on different journeys.
Kate will talk us through what is meant by voice, reading and dissecting examples from children’s fiction, then offer practical hints and tips on ways to strengthen a voice. The session will last around 3 hours covering theory (where question are allowed) and focussed exercises writing scenes from different points of view, with a tea break in between.
Note: instead of asking for great amounts of money for hiring the room, the owners have kindly asked if people can buy any food and drink they might need from the cafe downstairs. They do a good range of hot drinks and standard fare at affordable prices, but you’ll have to let me know of any vegetarian, vegan, or special dietary requirements and I’ll get in touch with them.
