Join experienced children’s authors and school visit aficionados, Lindsey Littleson and Justin Davies, for an illuminating and entertaining session on making the most of school visits.
Lindsey and Justin will be sharing their insight on how to get yourself into schools, what to do when you get there and how to cope when things go wrong.
Lindsay Littleson has four grown-up children and lives in the village of Uplawmoor near Glasgow. In 2014 she began writing for children and won the Kelpies Prize for her first children’s novel The Mixed Up Summer of Lily McLean. The sequel, The Awkward Autumn of Lily McLean, was published by Floris Books in 2017.
Guardians of the Wild Unicorns came out in February 2019. Guardians of the Wild Unicorns was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and shortlisted for both the Stockton Children’s Book Prize and East Sussex Children’s Book Prize. Secrets of the Last Merfolk was published by Floris in 2021.
In 2015 her WW1 novel Shell Hole was shortlisted for the Dundee Great War Children’s Book Prize and she enjoyed engaging in research so much that she was inspired to write another two historical books, A Pattern of Secrets, set in Victorian Paisley and The Titanic Detective Agency. Her latest novel with Cranachan Books, The Rewilders, was published in March 2022 and Euro Spies is coming out in April 2023.
After years spent flying around the world as cabin crew, Justin finally hung up his wings to focus on writing books that children can lose themselves in. His first book, Help! I Smell a Monster(Orchard) won the Fantastic Book Awards in 2021; his new middle grade novel, Haarville, is being published by Floris/Kelpies in February 2023.
As well as writing, Justin loves visiting schools to share his books, which he says is one of the best things about being a children’s author. When not lost in his own imagination, Justin continues his lifelong quest to bake the perfect scone. It’s an important endeavour, and one he takes very seriously.
Justin lives with his husband Andrew, and Sally the rescue greyhound, in the shadow of the Forth Bridge in Fife.
