WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
View a slideshow of images from 2015's cool Pirate Party!
It's 2016 and we're celebrating 20 YEARS (!!!) of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators in the British Isles!
This year the party will be held in the Georgian splendour
of the Assembly Room at St John's House
The Party is your opportunity to meet fellow SCBWI members as well as conference faculty and guests from the children's book world – editors, agents and art directors. And what a treat! Bestselling author Lin Oliver, co-founder of SCBWI, is flying in all the way from the United States to be our special guest.
There'll be a light finger buffet, a complimentary first drink, a cash bar, as well as live music from The Alex Lockhart Trio.
It will be a time of celebration!
Bestselling SCBWI author Teri Terry will be accepting the Crystal Kite Award for the British Isles and Ireland.
And we will be applauding the latest crop of SCBWI books with our Mass Book Launch.
2015's excited book launch celebrants (they look like that because they're pretending to be pirates)
WHAT TO WEAR
So, dressing up for the SCBWI Party has become a thing.
To really inhabit our conference theme Cracking Characters, in 2016, we want you dress up as your favourite Children's Book Character – a kind of World Book Day for grown-ups!
We'll be giving you a few diverting activities based on the character you come as, so if you can, choose one we're all likely to know!
If dressing up's not your thing don't worry, just put on your gladrags as normal and as with last year's pirate eyepatches we'll have something to help you get into the swing of it while maintaining your diginity!
THE FAMOUS CAKE
Every year, Catherine of Wish Cakes makes us an amazing party cake — a deliciously edible work of art celebrating the year's crop of SCBWI publications! What is she going to make for us this year, we wonder?
The cost is part of your conference fee – just bring your gladrags and insensible shoes and add happiness!
Extra tickets for the party can be bought for the price of £16.50. If you need an extra ticket for a partner this can be bought and paid for on the booking form.
If you are not attending the conference and would like to come to the party, tickets are available as a separate event here.
