Saturday Night Party and Industry Social
Including the Mass Book Launch celebrating the last three years’ selection of SCBWI books
The Saturday Night Dinner Social will be booked separately to the main conference, however bookings have now closed. We look forward to seeing you there!
It’s party time!
W
The party may look a little different, but it’s still a must for anyone attending the conference.
This year’s party is taking place at the Hyatt Hotel, only a short distance from the main conference venue.
Arrive at 6.30pm for a welcome drink (cash bar thereafter) and the opportunity to network with fellow SCBWI members, the conference faculty and guests from the children’s book world.
At 7.30pm we’ll sit down to a delicious three course meal. It will then be a time to celebrate as we present the Crystal Kite award and applaud the latest crop of SCBWI books during the Mass Book Launch.
And of course, we haven’t forgotten the cake, which will be another showstopping creation!
Dressing up for the party is now very much a thing, and this year’s theme is All Things Manchester. With such a wide theme anything goes, whether it’s a small nod or a full-blown costume! However, please don’t feel you have to look silly to come – smart evening wear is a very acceptable alternative.
W
Ticket includes welcome drink and three course meal. (Offered to attendees at a highly discounted rate, subsidized by SCBWI).
Space will be tight so this will be open for the conference delegates, volunteers and faculty first.
If you want to bring a plus one or attend the dinner even if you are not attending the conference please register your interest when booking and we’ll get back to you nearer the time if there is any space.
What exactly is a Mass Book Launch and what happens on the night?
It’s a bit like a debutante ball for writers, to celebrate our publishing successes. There will be a video presentation of the creatives who have published in the last three years. If you would like your book to be included please look out for the email blast that will be sent to all our members on 7th September with a link to a form that must be filled in by 25th September. If you wish to clarify anything in relation to this please contact Clare Bell on conferencembl@britishscbwi.org.
Not had a book published this year? The party is still for you and will include dinner, drinks and some pitching fun as well as the Crystal Kite Awards announcement.
Who can participate in the Mass Book Launch?
We invite SCBWI British Isles members who have had/are having a book self-published (and have sold more than 500 copies) or traditionally published between November 2019 & October 2022 to submit their book for the MBL.
Submissions to be featured in the mass book launch are now closed
The extended dates are to allow anyone attending the conference who had a book published between November 2019 and November 2021 to also showcase their work as we were unable to have an in-person MBL for those launching during the pandemic.
d
Do book launching members have to pay for the conference?
Yes, if they are attending the conference. Unfortunately we’re not able to offer MBL participants free entry to the conference, but we’re hoping you’re planning on coming anyway.
Can I participate in the Mass Book Launch without attending the conference?
This will depend on capacity and priority will be given to those who attend the conference. Please come back here to find the part booking form if there is capacity to open up to those not attending the conference, or follow the SCBWI Twitter / Facebook pages for news.
