***New Extended Deadline***
Midnight 30th AUGUST 2019
The Bright Agency Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by The Bright Agency in the following categories:
BAME* children’s book illustrator or author-illustrator
The scholarship covers the cost of the conference attendance, a 1-1 portfolio critique with a Bright Agency agent, hotel accommodation, and a grant towards travel to Winchester, where the conference will take place. If the winner isn’t a member of SCBWI-BI, they will also be given membership for one year.
Who can apply?
Members of SCBWI British Isles and non-members who are BAME and seek professional development and show great promise in their illustration work, but who are financially unable to come to the SCBWI BI annual conference, may apply. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applications from other SCBWI regions.
Applicants for both scholarships can be unpublished, or self-published, but not previously traditionally published.
Each submission will be judged solely on the strength of the illustration work submitted and its potential, and the statement supplied. Please note that author/illustrators may apply but they will be judged on the illustrations they provide.
*BAME is defined by Oxford Dictionaries as “black, Asian and minority ethnic (used to refer to members of non-white communities in the UK)”.
Work should be the applicant’s own and should NOT be under contract with a traditional publisher. The applicant should not already be represented by an agent.
You may submit work that has previously been self-published
Anyone who fails to fulfil the award criteria (see above) will not be put forward to the judging panel
The judging panel will make its decision based on the promise of the work and the applicant’s statement.
